COVID-19 Updates - Stage 3
We are here for you!
Welcome back! The Law Library has been preparing all spring to welcome back students, faculty, and staff to campus, whether virtually or in person. We are ready to support your learning, teaching, and research with a full array of remote and in-person services.
Keeping everyone safe is our top priority.
During Stage 3, the Daniel F. Cracchiolo Law Library is open to law students. Access to the Law Library is 24/7 via CatCard.
College of Law Faculty and Staff may access the Law Library at any time with your CatCard during Stage 3.
The Law Library is not physically accessible to members of the public or the broader University of Arizona community without permission.* However, we are available through email.
If you are seeking access to federal documents, please send your request to firstname.lastname@example.org . We will work with you to get the material you need.
Library staff are working in the library Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, to ensure you have what you need for class, research, and teaching. We can scan print materials, page and deliver books, provide interlibrary loans, and consult on your research projects. Further details are below.
*Exceptions may be made for those who must conduct research utilizing print material that can only be accessed in the Law Library. Send an email to Library Director Teresa Miguel-Stearns with your request.
Please note: The Law Library will be closed to all students except those taking the Bar Exam on July 27th and 28th.
Guidelines When Using the Law Library
The following are the guidelines and directives that we ask everyone to follow when coming in to use the Law Library.
- Face coverings are strongly recommend. If you are not fully vaccinated, the CDC recommends wearing a face covering (to protect yourself and others) and maintain 6 feet distance
- Practice social distancing
- Wash hands frequently and use hand sanitizer
- No food in the Library at this time
- Covered beverage only—straw preferred
- Clean your study area/office space before and after use with disinfectant provided in the library
- Please stay home if you are sick
The Law Library's Study Rooms, Tables, and Carrels can now be reserved in advance or at the moment of access by members of the College of Law community using our online reservation system. Reservations are not required to use any of the spaces or seats, but those with reservations will take priority over those without reservations. You can make your reservation by going to the Student Intranet site, and selecting Law Library Reservations under the Commonly Used Resources list.
Circulation Desk Hours
The Circulation Desk is staffed Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. No staff on Saturdays and Sundays.
Copyright laws and fair use exceptions allow us to scan and send to an individual (not post on D2L) a chapter or section of a book, an article, and more. We aim to provide scans of print materials within 1-2 business days.
You can request scans by contacting email@example.com. Please include course name, course number, book title, edition, author, and pages/chapter needed.
If your request is too extensive, we will scan what we are able, beginning with the first page of your request.
Paging and Delivering Books
If you need a circulating book in the library collection, please submit a request by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org . Please include full title, author, edition, and year.
You will receive an email when your book is ready for retrieval. We will place your requested book/s, with your name attached, in the law library front lobby. You can use the meeScan self check-out machine in person to check out your book or download the meeScan App (Android users here, Apple users here). If you have any questions using meeScan, library staff will be on hand during business hours to assist.
Course Reserves are available for two-hours check-out. If you are not on campus, we may be able to scan and send chapters to you. Just ask! If you are on campus, books on Course Reserves are located on a book cart opposite Circulation. Check out on your own, using the clipboard.
Other Non-circulating materials, such as special collections, cannot be checked-out during Stage 2, but we may be able to scan and send items to you. You can also request an appointment to access special collections by writing to Jaime Valenzuela.
Note to Faculty: Our default is to leave a book you request in your faculty mailbox as we've always done. If you prefer to pick up and check-out in the lobby, as described above, we are happy to leave your requested books for you there. We can also send a book to you via U.S. mail if you prefer. Please send these requests to email@example.com .
We use interlibrary loan (ILL) for materials you request which are not owned locally.
Be sure to request ILL materials directly from the Law Library rather than using the links embedded within the catalog records.
To request a book, please contact the Circulation Desk at Law-ILL@law-arizona.libanswers.com or you may use the book request form. Please include full title, author, edition, and year in your request.
You can return your books by dropping them in the Book Return Bins located in the Law Library Lobby.
During the summer, the Law Librarians and the Law Library Fellows are on hand daily to answer your questions, help you find what you need, and consult on research questions. Reference and research support is available Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm via email and video conference (by appointment).
The librarians created a variety of topical research guides to help you get started on your research.
Students are encouraged to seek research support at any time in the research lifecycle by writing to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Law IT Support
College of Law IT has a vast array of services to support our community. Don't hesitate to reach out with your questions and technical challenges.
Students experiencing challenges during the semester should contact Dean Jordan-Curtis immediately so we can work with you to help ensure your success. Additionally,

- There is are two Emergency Funds for students who are struggling financially
- Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) are available to students through Campus Health
- The University has remote wifi hotspots around the state
- The University Library has a robust technology borrowing program
- For students in Tucson, there is a UA Campus Pantry where any member of our community can obtain free groceries
